Sweden's goal is to increase its global contribution to the implementation of the Paris Agreement and strengthen the country's position in the green transition. However, short-term global climate targets and ineffective regulations continue to make it cheap to emit and exploit natural resources, which often means sustainable and responsible solutions are outcompeted by less sustainable alternatives.
Ahead of the COP30 climate summit, countries around the world will present updated NDCs. These are described as some of the most crucial documents of our time, as their implementation is essential for the environment, humanity and the economy. “Sweden – The Climate Matchmaker for Global Action” has been produced by Sweden's non-negotiating delegation to COP30 to help countries: 1) matching local climate challenges with existing solutions, 2) making their NDCs more actionable and investable, and 3) increasing their attractiveness for sustainable investments.
The report is based on robust science and many years of COP experience. It brings together Sweden's climate expertise, solutions, financing tools, and perspectives from business, government, academia and civil society on the global decisions needed to accelerate the implementation of NDCs. The message is clear: the solutions exist. The biggest obstacle to the transition is not a lack of research, technology or financing, but effective and evidence-based policy instruments.
“This is the first time a country has compiled its broad climate offering in a report. If it can give decision-makers and negotiators the confidence to formulate policy instruments that reward sustainable and responsible solutions – and bring them into place more quickly – it will be a success,” says Emma Modéer Wiking, Sustainability Manager at Business Sweden.
The report has been produced in collaboration with leading companies and authorities, with input and perspectives from academia and civil society.
