GTI runs three programs focused on mobility, energy, and buildings. Its Energy Efficiency in Buildings program gives U.S. cities direct access to top Swedish universities, research institutes, and industry leaders—including KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Chalmers University of Technology, RISE, KTC Group, Urbs Systems, and Alfa Laval. Together, these organizations bring world-class knowledge in building energy efficiency, heat recovery, HVAC technologies, and digital tools for sustainable urban development and renovation.

Running through the end of the year, the program facilitates collaboration between Swedish solution providers and U.S. stakeholders aiming to reduce carbon emissions from the built environment. Activities include workshops, study visits, and concrete project partnerships focused on knowledge exchange, joint research, and policy development.

The U.S. is a key market for us”, says Ester Codina, President of Alfa Laval North America. “Our energy-efficient heat exchangers help property owners significantly reduce their carbon footprint and meet their sustainability targets —without compromising performance. This program creates valuable opportunities to build strong partnerships.

Sweden is a global frontrunner in energy efficiency, building automation, heat pump technology, and smart ventilation”, adds Malin Höij, Senior Advisor at GTI. “There’s a growing demand among U.S. cities for proven solutions that can help accelerate the transition to more energy-efficient buildings.

About the Green Transition Initiative

The objective of the Green Transition Initiative (GTI) is to position Sweden as a key partner to U.S. cities and states in their urban transformation, connect Swedish and U.S. stakeholders, and leverage opportunities in sectors such as mobility, energy, and buildings. The initiative aims to strengthen innovation collaboration, trade, and investments between Sweden and the United States.

GTI is a joint initiative between the Embassy of Sweden in Washington D.C., Business Sweden, the Swedish Energy Agency, and Sweden’s innovation agency Vinnova.
