Overall, Swedish companies take a neutral view of the global business climate, with 80 per cent reporting a neutral or positive assessment. At the same time, companies continue to deliver strong results: 64 per cent report profitability and 65 per cent expect increased turnover in the coming year. In addition, 44 per cent plan to increase their investments.
India and Ireland top this year’s ranking of markets with the most favourable business climate for Swedish companies, followed by Vietnam, Poland and Denmark. This year’s survey covers 41 markets – five more than last year and more than ever before – with Ireland, Kenya, Nigeria, Argentina and Slovakia included as new markets.
“Despite the turbulence of recent years, it is encouraging that Swedish companies continue to identify opportunities in global markets. This is important not only for jobs in Sweden, but also for the country’s resilience. Swedish companies’ leading position in sustainability, innovation, smart solutions and digitalisation strengthens our competitiveness in the markets highlighted in the report as increasingly important – not least in Europe and Southeast Asia,” says Jan Larsson, CEO of Business Sweden.
The survey shows that a majority of Swedish companies are profitable across all regions. Profitability is strongest in Europe, where close to 70 per cent report positive results – making it the region with the highest share of profitable companies.
“It is clear that Swedish companies continue to see opportunities in international markets, despite a more uncertain global environment. The combination of profitability and investment plans reflects strong long-term confidence,” says Daniella Waldfogel, CEO of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.
The Global Business Climate Survey is conducted in collaboration between Business Sweden, Swedish Chambers International, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and Sweden’s embassies and consulates worldwide. The report aims to provide Swedish companies and decision-makers with a fact-based view of the global business climate, while contributing to stronger international business relations for Sweden.
