Taiwan has set ambitious measures to reduce carbon emissions and increase focus on sustainable development. Key initiatives include over USD 70 Billion investments to increase renewable energy to 20% of total energy by 2025 and to transform a fleet of more than 10.000 buses to electric powered by 2030.
Metropolitan city governments are having a clear sustainability focus and driving development for circular economy, green buildings and green mobility. Taipei, New Taipei, Tainan and Kaohsiung city governments won the 2020 IDC Smart City Asia Pacific Awards, which made Taiwan the biggest winner in the APAC region.
From the industry side, there is strong push of green supply chain operations from global leading brands like Apple, Google, Tesla, and Nike which use Taiwan and Taiwanese companies as an important manufacturing base. Taiwan also has several global shipping lines like Evergreen and Yang Ming which are in need for sustainable maritime solutions.
