Four reasons to choose Sweden
Very low antibiotic use
Sweden has the lowest consumption of antibiotics for animals among EU member states.
Preventive animal health
Sweden’s approach is based on disease prevention, biosecurity, good farm management and responsible animal husbandry.
Strong animal welfare regulation
Swedish animal production is governed by national animal welfare regulations, supported by disease-control and animal-health programmes.
Approved for export to Japan
Swedish establishments approved for pork exports to Japan include facilities operated by both Scan Sverige and A.J. Dahlberg Slakteri. The official Japanese list was last updated on 1 September 2026.
Why Sweden?
A long-term commitment to animal health
Sweden’s low antibiotic use is not based on avoiding necessary treatment. It is supported by work to prevent animals from becoming ill in the first place.
Disease prevention, biosecurity, monitoring programmes, good farm management and veterinary guidance reduce the need for antibiotics. When antibiotics are needed, they must be prescribed by a veterinarian.
Clear standards and controls
Sweden has a national control plan for the food chain covering areas including food safety, animal health and official controls.
Why now?
A new sourcing opportunity for Japan
