The Green Dairy puts Swedish food innovation on the global map
How do you meet a rapidly growing global demand for plant-based products while navigating strict regulatory requirements, complex logistics and entirely new taste preferences? For Swedish plant-based dairy producer The Green Dairy, the answer was a close partnership with Business Sweden and the Try Swedish export programme. Together, they enabled international expansion and brought Swedish food innovation from Karlshamn to markets around the world.
The Green Dairy was founded on a clear ambition, to make plant-based the new normal. Since 2006, the company has built an advanced knowledge and production centre in Karlshamn, where highly automated manufacturing supports a broad B2B portfolio of plant-based dairy products and ingredients. Today, the company employs 70 people and generates approximately €10 million in revenue, 2024. The Green Dairy has grown in step with global demand for plant-based products and is backed by engaged owners, including IKEA GreenTech.
International demand came early. With it came challenges, including regulatory compliance, logistical complexity and local taste preferences that often differ significantly from Swedish expectations. At the same time, The Green Dairy faced strong competition from both major global players and local producers. To succeed internationally, the company needed market insight, trusted networks and a partner capable of navigating complex export environments.
