In the last few years, the Polish economy has displayed strong, continuous growth. With a population close to 40 million, Poland has a lot of potential for Swedish companies. Business opportunities can be found in many industries, including energy, cleantech, healthcare, manufacturing, defence, aviation and retail. Business Sweden supports you with your export to Poland.

Consistent growth performance

Poland is one of Europe’s most attractive business destinations, combining EU market access, a large and resilient domestic economy, competitive operating conditions, and a strong pool of skilled talent.

Since 1989, the country has experienced an "economic miracle," transforming into one of Europe's most successful economies with GDP per capita increasing by nearly 150% - the highest in Central Europe. Based on the 2026 International Monetary Fund data, Poland has officially surpassed Spain in GDP per capita measured by purchasing power parity (PPP), marking a significant economic growth milestone. In the coming years, Poland is expected to continue to close the gap on larger Western European economies.

Expanding ties to Sweden

Macroeconomic stability and predictability together with accelerating consumer affluence make Poland a key destination for Swedish exports, production, sourcing, and long-term investment.

There are over 700 Swedish companies present in Poland and the trade turnover between Poland and Sweden from 2004 to 2024 has grown by over 400%. The ‘Swedish brand’ remains stable and continues to gain strength for companies seeking to establish and grow their presence on the Polish market. At the same time, there is plenty of room for further growth of Swedish footprint in Poland.

In November 2024, a strategic partnership agreement was signed by Prime Ministers Ulf Kristersson and Donald Tusk, outlining priorities for trade, investments, and economic cooperation, opening up a new chapter of strong Swedish-Polish relations.

Business opportunities

Poland is increasingly attractive as a scalable, high-potential market for Swedish companies seeking long-term growth in Europe. Numerous business opportunities can be found in energy transition and clean technologies – with Poland’s energy system undergoing one of Europe’s largest transformations. Major investments are also planned in connectivity, railway, ports and large-scale infrastructure projects, such as the new main airport hub. Defence, security and dual-use technologies are one of the main focus areas of the Swedish-Polish partnership agreement. Other promising sectors for Swedish exports include healthcare, retail and manufacturing.
