About the event
Gangwon Province has long been the heart of Korea’s mining industry — home to the nation’s largest concentration of mines and skilled workforce — and has played a pivotal role in advancing Korea’s resource development.
Now, Gangwon Province is moving beyond traditional resource extraction toward a new era of Smart AI Mining, where artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies drive innovation, safety, and sustainability across the mining value chain.
Sweden, a global frontrunner in sustainable mining transformation, is leading the way in electrification, automation, and digitalization. Innovative Swedish companies such as ABB, Sandvik, Ericsson, and Epiroc are setting international benchmarks for next-generation mining solutions.
Building on these complementary strengths, Korea and Sweden are now embarking on a new partnership to integrate AI and digital technologies into the mining sector, paving the way for a smarter and more sustainable future.
Why Join?
The Sweden-Gangwon Smart AI & Sustainable Mining Forum aims to:
- Connect Gangwon’s mining infrastructure and skilled workforce with Sweden’s advanced technologies;
- Foster the integration of AI and automation with real-world mining operations;
- Strengthen Triple Helix collaboration among policymakers, industry, and academia;
- Cultivate next-generation talent and establish a global reference model for smart and sustainable mining.
Through this joint effort, Gangwon Province and Sweden aspire to become a global hub for sustainable and innovative mining transformation, leading international cooperation toward an AI-powered future mining ecosystem.
