With its strategic location and strong infrastructure, Austria has long had close commercial ties with Sweden. Both countries have a shared commitment to sustainability, competitiveness and long-term economic cooperation.
This report presents the inaugural edition of our Business Climate Survey of Swedish companies
operating in Austria. Confidence in the market is strong with mostly positive financial performances, as 52 per cent of respondents expressed a neutral to very good perception of the Austrian business climate, and 68 per cent reported profitability.
After two and a half years of negative economic growth, economic headwinds are anticipated to subside in 2025, easing pressure on businesses and households. Austria’s expected growth is reflected in rising industrial and consumer confidence and an improved outlook in crucial export markets. This holds new potential for Swedish companies, especially relating to research and development and areas of innovation.
The ‘Swedish brand’ is a strong differentiator for companies seeking to establish and grow their presence in the Austrian market. Many respondents report that their Austrian partners frequently associate Sweden with technical know-how, innovation, and sustainability – qualities that reflect positively on their business.
Austria’s history of innovation matches Sweden’s, and there’s a long history of companies from the two countries collaborating. The market presents prime potential for trade and investment opportunities in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and sustainable technologies.
