Sweden is part of the joint Nordic pavilion, The Nordic Circle, where sustainability, innovation, and cooperation take centre stage. However, during the National Day, the spotlight will be on Sweden.

To mark the occasion, an official delegation led by HM King Carl XVI Gustaf, and a large business delegation headed by Jacob Wallenberg, Chairman of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, will visit the World Expo. Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, will represent the Swedish Government. The delegations aim to further strengthen ties between Sweden and Japan and promote the business opportunities made possible through collaboration between the two nations.

The business delegation includes high-level representatives from Swedish partner companies to Expo 2025 Osaka, such as EQT, Saab, Tetra Pak, Volvo, Ericsson, Investor, FAM, Alfa Laval, Autoliv, Bona, Hemocue, Getinge, among others.

“Participation in the World Expo in Osaka offers great opportunities for Sweden and Swedish companies to deepen relations and promote business in Japan and the wider region. Sweden’s National Day is a show of strength that gives us unique visibility amid the noise of the World Expo,” says Jan Larsson, CEO of Business Sweden.

Programme highlights include:

  • National Day Ceremony – An official opening with speeches from dignitaries of both countries, accompanied by a cultural programme
  • Experience the Expo – A guided tour of the Expo site, featuring inspiring and innovative pavilions
  • Business Summit: Creating a Resilient & Future-Proof Society – Actions for the Next Decade – A seminar where leading figures from government, business, and academia in Sweden and Japan will discuss building a resilient future together
  • Cultural Programme: Tradition and Tomorrow – A fusion of Swedish tradition and forward-looking creativity through music and technology
  • Reception at the Nordic Pavilion – Star chef Frida Ronge presents a specially curated menu of Swedish flavours with a Japanese twist

Background to the National Day:
Participating countries at a World Expo are offered the opportunity to host a National Day—an occasion to draw special attention to their country. Each programme is developed in cooperation with the host country and includes official ceremonies, cultural events, and business-focused activities. National Days are attended by distinguished guests from the host nation as well as general visitors.
