With over 200 million inhabitants, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and home to one of the continent’s largest and fastest-growing economies. Key growth sectors include FinTech, e-commerce, digital health, edtech, cybersecurity and gaming. The country is also home to five out of seven African tech unicorns. Its main economic centres are Lagos and the capital, Abuja.

To support growing ties between Sweden and Nigeria, Business Sweden is opening a new office in Lagos. Through a local presence, Business Sweden can manage more projects with clear development impact and help Swedish companies contribute to local growth.

On 8–9 April, Business Sweden will lead a delegation to Nigeria comprising Swedish companies and authorities. Participants will include HRH Crown Princess Victoria, Minister for Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson, and Business Sweden’s CEO Jan Larsson. During the visit, the delegation will meet with Nigerian business leaders and decision-makers to explore new collaborations, discuss business opportunities and exchange experiences.

The visit will include the official office opening and the Nigeria–Sweden Business Forum, where Swedish and Nigerian business leaders, industry experts and policymakers will come together. The forum will focus on:

Innovation & impact investment: How technology, digitalisation and sustainable business models can drive economic and social development.

Sustainable urban transport powered by renewable energy solutions: Addressing mobility challenges and promoting clean energy solutions for Nigeria’s expanding urban infrastructure.

The programme also includes study visits and meetings with Nigerian companies, academics and political representatives.

“The rapidly growing Nigerian economy offers Swedish companies many exciting opportunities. Based on local demand, Swedish technology and know-how can play an important role in supporting Nigeria’s development and economic growth. With the new office, we are enabling deeper cooperation, knowledge exchange and trade that benefits both countries,” says Jan Larsson, CEO of Business Sweden.

“Opening an office in Lagos is a strategic step to strengthen economic ties between Sweden and Nigeria. We look forward to supporting a broader Swedish presence in the country and promoting sustainable growth and innovation—while also making a positive contribution to local development,” says Marlena Batist, Trade Commissioner Designate for Nigeria at Business Sweden.

“Establishing ourselves in Nigeria marks an important milestone in our long-term commitment to Africa. With a strong local presence, we can offer Swedish companies even better support on the ground, open doors to strategic partnerships and help them navigate a dynamic – yet complex – market. We look forward to deepening our market insights and contributing to sustainable business opportunities that create value for both Swedish and Nigerian partners,” says Maha Bouzeid, Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa.
