Business Sweden is reinforcing its operations in India with the launch of a new office in Mumbai, strategically located in the Pune region. This expansion aligns with the Swedish government’s heightened focus on Asia and marks Business Sweden’s third office in India.
India is projected to become the world's third-largest economy by 2030, and nearly 300 Swedish companies already have a presence in the country. More than 70 Indian companies have invested in Sweden, generating 7,000 direct jobs. Mumbai and the Pune region serve as India’s commercial hub, contributing 22% of the country’s GDP. Mumbai is also a key international trade centre, responsible for a quarter of India’s industrial production.
The new office in Mumbai will be inaugurated on 18 March, with Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard and Business Sweden’s CEO Jan Larsson among the attendees.
“India consistently ranks among the top three global markets in terms of business climate for major Swedish companies. This underscores the significance of the world’s most populous market for Swedish enterprises. By opening our third office in the country, we are reinforcing our already strong presence in India. This sends a powerful message to both the Indian and Swedish business communities about the vast and growing potential in trade between our nations”, says Jan Larsson, CEO, Business Sweden.
Sofia Högman, Trade Secretary and Country Director for Business Sweden in India, highlights the increasing interest from Swedish businesses:
“Interest in India is immense, and we are now in an even stronger position to support Swedish companies in unlocking business opportunities across key sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, green transition, and manufacturing. At the same time, we can assist more Indian companies in investing in Sweden, helping to create new jobs at home,” says Sofia Högman, Trade Commissioner and Country Director, Business Sweden.
Business Sweden already operates offices in Delhi and Bangalore. The addition of the Mumbai office strengthens proximity to the country’s financial hub and the industrial region of Pune—Sweden’s long-standing business centre in India.
