The Government decided to open a third Swedish Consulate General in the United States at the beginning of 2025. The inauguration in Houston forms part of Sweden’s programme during 2026 to mark the United States’ 250th anniversary as an independent nation.

Business Sweden has been commissioned by the Government to plan and organise the accompanying business delegation in close collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and other Team Sweden partners.

Texas is currently the world’s eighth‑largest economy and one of the United States’ most dynamic regions for innovation and entrepreneurship. Around 90 Swedish companies are already active in the state, together contributing approximately 40,000 jobs.

Texas is one of the world’s most dynamic economies and an increasingly important market for Swedish companies. The inauguration of Sweden’s new Consulate General in Houston is an important step to further strengthen bilateral relations and create improved conditions for Swedish companies to grow and invest in the region,” says Jan Larsson, CEO of Business Sweden.

Houston is a global hub for the space industry, energy and life science, while Austin has emerged as a leading centre for new technology and digital innovation. The new consulate is expected to further strengthen support for Swedish companies already present in the region and facilitate new market entries.

In recent years, we have seen strong interest in Texas among Swedish companies and many new establishments across different sectors. The state’s sizeable economy, strengths in energy and life science, and its proximity to Mexico make it an attractive location for cross‑border trade,” says Vlad Månsson, Sweden’s Trade Commissioner to the United States.

With this delegation, Business Sweden aims to reinforce Sweden’s position as a leading innovation nation and create new opportunities for Swedish companies to develop business and partnerships in Texas.

Delegation participants include:
