The Danish economy is moving towards a more diversified growth model, creating opportunities across a wider range of sectors.

A few weeks ago, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) released its 2026 Article IV Mission Concluding Statement on Denmark, highlighting Denmark's strong economic fundamentals and a policy agenda centred on competitiveness, resilience and broadening productivity beyond the pharmaceutical sector.

These priorities are reflected in the Danish government's investment plans, including accelerated efforts within sustainable energy infrastructure, electrification, housing, defence and AI-driven productivity improvements, along with lower corporate taxation and facilitated permit processes.

These themes also resonate strongly with Business Sweden's newly released Global Economic Outlook. While Denmark remains one of Europe's fastest-growing economies, our analysis highlights that a more sustainable growth trajectory will require broader contributions from investment, consumption and the wider business sector as the exceptional boost from pharmaceuticals gradually moderates. In other words, the Danish economy is moving towards a more diversified growth model, creating opportunities across a wider range of sectors.

For Swedish companies, opportunities are particularly visible within:

  • Sustainable energy infrastructure, electrification and housing construction
  • Defence and critical infrastructure
  • AI, digitalisation solutions and other productivity-enhancing technologies
