The United Arab Emirates (UAE), one of the most significant economies in the Middle East, has a long-standing history of strong bilateral relations and fruitful cooperation with Sweden – and these ties are only becoming stronger as the UAE’s economic growth continues.

This report presents the 2025 edition of our Business Climate Survey of Swedish companies operating in the UAE. The overall perceptions are positive and optimistic, with 71 per cent of the respondents reporting views of the business climate in the UAE as good or very good and 67 per cent expressing anticipation that turnover will increase in 2025.
Highly trade-dependent with a high export-to-GDP percentage, the UAE’s favourable geographic position makes it an ideal re-export hub for other countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) as well as a crucial partner for companies seeking access to other parts of the region. Its forecasted growth sets the UAE up as a significant economic hub in the region and presents promising opportunities for Swedish firms operating in the country.

The ‘Swedish brand’ provides some benefit to companies seeking to establish and grow their presence in the UAE market. Overall, the findings indicate that the Swedish image has increased as a significant asset, though it is not yet a major contributor to business competitiveness in the UAE. Many respondents report that Sweden is often associated with quality, reliability, and sustainability – qualities that reflect positively on their business.

In recent years, the UAE has taken several steps towards promoting environmental sustainability through long-term strategies and regulations. However, according to the survey’s participating companies, sustainability is still not perceived as a key factor for maintaining competitiveness.

ABOUT THE SURVEY

This survey was created by and for the Swedish business community in the UAE to include a vital complement when analysing the market: firsthand insights from the companies with direct local experience. This year’s Business Climate Survey for the UAE was conducted with the participation of 46 Swedish companies active in the UAE mainland or in one of the country’s more than 40 economic free zones. The respondents represent a diverse range of business profiles and sizes.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all participating companies and respondents who contributed to this report. Team Sweden hopes the findings will provide valuable insights for both companies already operating in the UAE and those considering entering the market. As always, we stand ready to support all Swedish businesses with an interest in the Middle East.
