Consumer products driven by the tourist industry

what

Hong Kong’s dynamic retail market makes it a key destination for launching or expanding brands in Asia.

Hong Kong’s inbound tourism has rebounded strongly, with about 45 million visitor arrivals from January to November 2025, surpassing the full-year 2024 total. Mainland visitors accounted for roughly 34.5 million (+11% year-on-year), while non-mainland arrivals reached around 10 million (+16% year-on-year), creating renewed opportunities for F&B, tourism, leisure, and retail. Luxury and high-street brands in prime shopping districts stand to benefit most from this demand.

Hong Kong consumers have a passion for quality products. The city has over 63,000 retail outlets and over 28,000 F&B establishments, enabling consumers to enjoy products and good food from all over the world.

How

Hong Kong’s retail sector showed renewed momentum in 2025, with stronger performance in the second half of the year helping to stabilise overall sales. Fullyear retail revenue is expected to reach around HK$380 billion, supported by recovering tourism, rising online sales, and improving consumer sentiment -signalling a gradual but encouraging step toward rebuilding prepandemic strength.

Tourist remains a key driver of Hong Kong’s retail market, with over 36 million visitors recorded in the first three quarters of 2025, putting the city on track to surpass the fullyear 2024 total of 44.5 million arrivals. Returning to almost the same level in 2018 when visitor arrivals reached the highest level in the last 20 years.

Significant opportunities: Exist for eco-friendly products and services, as well as products for middle-aged and silver-haired customers.
