Hong Kong faces large demographic challenges with 30% of its population projected to be 65+ by 2030—outpacing Western economies. Coupled with the world’s highest life expectancy (85.5 years), this creates immense demand for innovative elderly care solutions, and unlike Europe’s gradual aging, Hong Kong’s rapid shift forces immediate action, accelerating adoption of new technologies and care models. But beyond the local demand, Hong Kong also serves as a springboard into mainland China’s vast aging market that by 2035 is expected to have over 400 million citizens aged 60+—a population larger than the entire EU. The GBA is already seeing explosive growth in cross-border elderly care, with 50,000+ Hong Kong seniors relocating to mainland facilities for affordable, high-quality care. Government policies like Guangdong scheme and Residential Care Services Scheme in Guangdong further fuel this trend, creating massive opportunities for foreign providers.
To introduce this opportunity to Swedish businesses and to help open doors to business opportunities, Business Sweden is in collaboration in collaboration with the Consulate General of Sweden in Hong Kong and the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing conducting a delegation focused on healthcare in an aging age in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area from 24-26 November 2025.
