Digital and smart healthcare to support the aging society in Taiwan

what

The healthcare system in Taiwan offers universal health insurance coverage that is known for its high quality and affordability. Additionally, Taiwan has officially become a super-aged society, with 20% of its population being over 65 years old as of 2025. In response to this demographic shift, the healthcare sector in Taiwan is actively seeking new solutions to enhance treatment options and improve the overall quality of care.

Furthermore, Taiwan faces a persistent shortage of medical personnel in the long term. Therefore, digital and smart healthcare solutions that can enhance the quality of care and improve work efficiency hold significant potential in Taiwan. By leveraging technology and innovation, these solutions can address the challenges posed by the aging population and contribute to the advancement of healthcare services in the country.

how

16 hospitals were funded by the Ministry of Health and Welfare to establish three types of AI centers: Responsible AI, Clinical AI Validation, and AI Impact Evaluation. They provide a convenient testing and launch platform for innovative solutions. Taiwan’s AI healthcare market was worth NT$360 million in 2023, projected to grow to NT$1.12 billion by 2030.

Taiwan heavily relies on import of high-end medical devices, and total medical device import market remains strong growth. 70% of high-end medical devices like imaging and implants are imported.
